I am Flawed

I am flawed!

I’ve been studying the life of Moses for the next unit of Bible Study.  Moses is such a hero of the faith, for both Christians and Jews.  Moses was out running errands, and he encountered God in the form of a burning bush.  And, Moses paid attention!

And as Moses heard the call of God, he began a litany of excuses.  No one in their right mind would think themselves able to rescue the nation from slavery and evil forces.  No one in their right mind would consider themselves worthy to serve God successfully.

Yet, God calls each of us as God called Moses.  Moses responds to God with his lack of confidence, his lack of skill, his insecurities, his fear of failing, and even his fear of death.  Yet Moses also took off his shoes in recognition of being in the presence of holiness.  As I write this, I’m barefoot.

Moses was a flawed individual, yet God called him.

I am a flawed individual, yet God has called me.

Most of you are flawed, yet God is calling you.

Theologian Martin Buber writes, “Such is the paradox and burden of ministry.  It is laid upon the stammering to bring the voice of Heaven to Earth."
